Government of the United Arab Emirates has been selected as the most effective Government of the world and the eighth most competitive, according to the Global competitiveness manual 2013, published by the International Institute of Management Development in Switzerland. Someone might wonder how is a very small country in a volatile Middle East could be on the top of the list. How they did it? And that the Government of the United Arab Emirates has done differently?
Being in the UAE for a period of two weeks, I have some answers to these questions. When I arrived in Dubai, I noticed that it is not different from that of the United States to a large extent. Dubai is highly developed. Its infrastructure meets international standards. His road to six lanes for its metro without driver, skyscrapers in the world, well-designed, roads, high level of public safety, which made Dubai one of the safest places in the world.
In addition, it is a very diverse city. While walking on a street, you can see people from different ethnic groups, including a large population of the West. Population of United Arab Emirates is composed of approximately 80% of foreigners, mainly from Asian countries as the India, the Nepal and Bangladesh.
Dubai is home to the tallest building in the world. With 160-storey Burj Khalifa is considered one of the best monuments of the city. Every day, it attracts thousands of visitors. There is next to Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, which is regarded as the largest mall in the world. Here you will find all American, European and international brands.
Just outside the Mall, there's the largest dancing fountain in the world. Most of the trade in Dubai is done through its port in Jabel Ali. Port of Dubai is considered to be the third biggest port in the world, just behind those of China and Singapore. It is run, managed and operated by DP World, one of the leading companies in the world in terms of management of ports.
Dubai is an excellent model of an Arab city that went too far before several other major cities around the world. Main source of Dubai's income is by the conduct of business and tourism. Dubai has very small reserves of oil; in fact, it is important to most of its supply of oil from Abu Dhabi or other countries in the region. So, what makes it different?
Say that a country (or State) doesn't have the financial resources to invest in its development, which is the case with many Arab countries, shows only a lack of leadership from his Government. Ruler of Dubai, Prime Minister and vice-president of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is a visionary leader with a clear commitment to work for the interest of its citizens. To finance its development projects, Government of Dubai taking loans of many international institutions. This is not petrodollar, which makes it so great Dubai. It is the leadership and determination to the top of the list of all aspects of its leader.
To sum up, that the Government of the United Arab Emirates has achieved in recent years can be achieved in all Arab countries, including the Morocco. All we need is to have the right people in the right places and work together for the interest of the general public, not the interest. Style of leadership of the UAE is certainly a model for all Arab countries and around the world.
